History

Our founder, Lindsey William Winterbotham, qualified as a solicitor on 22nd November 1848 and shortly afterwards set up in practice at 5 Rowcroft which forms part of the premises from which Winterbothams has practiced ever since.

Lindsey Winterbotham came from an influential family: his father was a founder member of what is now the Stroud and Swindon Building Society and he had three brothers:

Sir William Winterbotham, a president of the Law Society, and Henry Page Selfe Winterbotham and Arthur Brent Winterbotham who were both Liberal MPs.
